SPACE IN CYBERSPACE

The question of space and spatiality in a MOO is one that may keep the philosophers busy for decades to come. But essentially a room at a MOO becomes too crowded when the number of conversants exceeds the ability of one's eye and screen to follow the conversation. And a MOO becomes too crowded when the system is unable to keep up with the actions and speech of the citizens and begins abruptly to slow down resulting in what is known in MOOs as a lag. The question is additionally vexed by the huge distances from which participants can log on: on a MOO it seems you can literally (or is that virtually) have a case of "allspace in a notshall".
