LAG-TIME
One of the most serious drawbacks of MOO use is the tendency to
overcrowding that results when too many citizens log on at the
same time. DU-MOO is relatively uncrowded, but an enormous MOO
such as Lambda-MOO at xerox lists over 800 citizens and if even a
fraction of that number logs on at the same time a lag sets in.
A lag is when the conversation and train of virtual events seems
to freeze up on you screen so that it can take as long as five
minutes before what you have "said" appears on your screen as
having been said by you and "heard' by other citizens. Needless
to say, lag can be very frustrating when a heated discussion is
taking place. One of the biggest advantages of using DU-MOO then
is that because it is less used than the recreational MOOs,
Lambda-MOO and PMC-MOO, it is also less prone to lag.
